Foreword
My hosts are running 24/24h and are attached to different distributed computing projects of the Boinc platform. Since my first steps in grid computing back in May 2000, my hardware obviously changed a lot. I started with a 486DX4 100 MHz home built computer, then a Cyrix P166+, a Pentium II 400 MHz, and even a 486DX2 66 MHz in August 2003 (for a stupid record: a workunit done in 14 days and 13 hours, right on time for the result validity of 15 days. Just to compare: my main host by that time could process 2 workunits in parallel in less than 2 hours each).
Since I started, I never suffered any technical problem related to their continuous activity. If I hadn't to reboot my hosts every month for Windows updates, they would never stop working but 2 days a year when I clean them. Now that 3 of my hosts are running Linux, their uptime is even longer.
